Relations between Great Britain and India began as profitable trade that was transacted by the East India Company. However, the British gradually began intervening militarily and politically in order to civilize Indian people, and in turn disrupted the traditional culture, economy, and nationalism in India. This gradual development of imperialistic mindsets towards India led to Social Darwinism and the unjust treatment of the "inferior race".
